Dear people of Tatarstan, respected compatriots, and Tatars all around the world!

We wholeheartedly congratulate you on this important date for all Tatars – the Day of the Formation of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was on this very day, August 30, 1990, that the Declaration on the State Sovereignty of the Tatar ASSR was adopted. This meant that Tatarstan declared itself a subject with the right to independent state development. The Declaration later became the foundation for the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Tatarstan on November 6, 1990.

This historic event is now 35 years old, but it still remains for us a date of great importance, one that we must remember and take pride in! The Tatar people are spread across the globe, living in many countries of the world. Yet, the Republic of Tatarstan remains the homeland for each of us, an inexhaustible source of national spirit and inspiration.

On behalf of the Tatarstan Independence Committee, we thank the leaders and activists of the Tatar national movement, as well as everyone who contributed their great efforts in defending the sovereignty of the Republic of Tatarstan! You have immortalized your names in the history of the Tatar people as true fighters and worthy sons and daughters of our nation.

Unfortunately, the will of our people, enshrined in the Declaration, due to the imperial attitude of the authorities of the Russian Federation, has remained only on paper. Instead of freedom and development — we received new shackles; instead of the right to determine the fate of Tatarstan ourselves — decisions imposed from Moscow; instead of preserving our language — its systematic eradication.

But we remember everything, and we take historical lessons to correct political mistakes. Even today, in Russia’s criminal war against sovereign Ukraine, our compatriots are forced to fight and die for the interests of those who have colonized us for centuries and deprived us of a future.

Dear people of Tatarstan!

Addressing you on behalf of the Tatarstan Independence Committee, we call upon each of you to reflect on the fate of our people, our families, and future generations. Take a conscious and responsible path toward self-determination, native language, national traditions, and culture. Speak in Tatar, pass on knowledge to your children and grandchildren, continue the traditions of the people, preserving the wise centuries-old experience of our ancestors. Then we will be strong in spirit and steadfast in our unity.

Believe in yourselves and in the great strength of the Tatar people, who, sooner or later, will regain their independence, achieve sovereignty, and unite into a strong, free, and flourishing Republic of Tatarstan!

Happy Day of Independence and Sovereignty! May this be a new beginning for Freedom and Prosperity!
